Bryan Marlow
Owner / Inventor
Bryan Marlow, a third-generation master carpenter, was born and raised in Oregon. His journey began at Murphy Logging Co. and extended to crabbing in the Bering Sea to fund his entrepreneurial dreams. Throughout his career, Bryan's dedication and work ethic have consistently set him apart.
In 1991, he founded his first construction company in Eugene, Oregon. Over the years, Bryan worked in Florida, California, Idaho, and Washington before eventually returning to Oregon. In 2011, he established Woodstone Structures, a company specializing in high-quality outdoor living spaces.
While building countless patio and deck covers, Bryan encountered challenges when these structures needed to be mounted on existing roofs. He refused to use facia-mounted attachments due to their non-structural nature, and a full build-out of the existing truss system often exceeded customers' budgets. To address this, he developed custom brackets designed to mount on top of roofing materials, positioned just outside the exterior wall and sealed with butyl.
After completing several projects using this approach, Bryan devised the initial design for the Patio Roof Riser—an adjustable bracket capable of accommodating any roof pitch, mounting outside the building envelope to reduce liability, and ensuring a strong, structural connection. After hundreds of hours of engineering, testing, and real-world applications, Bryan was ready to share his invention with the world.
Brendan Soper
Co-Owner / Builder
Brendan was also born and raised in Oregon. Moving to Colorado at only 17, he began his career building houses. At 23, Brendan moved back to Oregon to be closer to his family while also starting one of his own. Gradually, he began to transition into building outdoor living spaces and in 2019, was hired by Bryan as a lead contractor for Woodstone Structures doing just that. During this time, Patio Roof Riser was still in its infancy.
Brendan says that his motivation comes from an “Unwavering desire to produce a high-quality product and to please the person that you’re doing it for.” This motivation likely contributed to his increasing involvement with Patio Roof Riser as the company evolved.
Today, Brendan co-owns Patio Roof Riser and Woodstone Structures with Bryan. As Bryan has switched his entire focus onto Patio Roof Riser, Brendan now leads Woodstone Structures while also operating as the COO of Patio Roof Riser. Brendan ensures smooth day-to-day operations at Patio Roof Riser and keeps Bryan focused.
Looking to the future, Brendan wants to continue to work hard, both creating incredible outdoor living spaces and innovating products that enhance the industry.
